About Post Modern Edit

While most industries are transitioning away from VHS tape to DVD, Post Modern Edit continues to handle high volumes of video tape duplication for its primary duplication market—airlines. The reason is that there is still a large number of airline fleets worldwide with tape-based inflight entertainment systems installed. The lifespan of a commercial plane can exceed 20 years and, as retrofitting newer equipment is very costly, in most cases the original tape-based equipment remains. As a result, PME continues to duplicate 35,000 - 40,000 video cassettes per month. The majority, approximately 75%, is Hi 8 or 8mm; the remainder are SVHS and VHS. Of course, new technologies abound in this industry, just as in the consumer world, and newer aircraft are equipped with an array of state-of-the-art systems featuring an individual screen for each passenger. Newer systems include embedded video-on-demand entertainment systems, portable players capable of holding several movie selections as well as other types of content, and interfaces to enable passengers to use their own iPods or DVD players.

Besides video duplication, PME provides the full range of post production services, including editing, Pro Tools audio services—including sound design, Dolby digital mastering, ADR, voice over, sweetening, sound effects and Foley—as well as submastering, cloning, format conversions, multi-format encoding, transcoding, etc.

Editing services include compilation of video magazine shows and airline branded or special interest channels for several major U.S. domestic carriers as well as international airlines.  Other services provided by our Creative division include production of safety or destination videos and sponsored content, as well as creation of branded segments, such as animated or static intros, outros, bumpers, etc.

PME also provides extensive foreign language dubbing and subtitling services, primarily to support sales by its Hollywood studio clients to airlines worldwide. Current release movies are dubbed into several languages, either at the Post Modern recording studio, or in the country where the language is spoken (referred to as "in territory"). Besides the "FIGS"—acronym for French, Italian, German and Spanish—dubbed tracks are routinely created in Japanese, Portuguese and many other languages. Subtitles are available in most languages, and with the increased capabilities of airline VOD systems, more and more languages are routinely supplied so that airline passengers worldwide can view the latest Hollywood blockbusters in a language they understand. Closed captions and open captions are also provided.
